The First Evergreen Cup
Last year’s inaugural Evergreen Cup was a blast and a celebration of the growers in our industry. The origin for this cannabis competition was simple– let the weed speak for itself. Retailers from around Washington submitted the growers that were staff favorites as well as customer favorites and we invited them to flex their skills.
No pay to play, no buying in, and no way for the judges to know who’s weed was who’s. Additionally, the double blind concept for The Evergreen Cup was the first of its kind for cannabis in the region. The judges panel was made of representatives from local retailers as well as Wes Abney from NWLeaf and Joey Brabo from Respect my Region. The judges were each given a scorecard to rate smoothest smoke, best flavor, and best appearance. Highest terpene content was tested by our friends at Medicine Creek labs and best overall was determined by highest points scored as a whole.
Last years winners were:
Highest Terpene Content – THSea (OG Kush Breath)
Smoothest Smoke – 1937 Farms (Purple Kool Aid)
Best Flavor – Exotikz (Mimosa)
Best Appearence – Seattle’s Private Reserve (Jet Fuel x Tangie)
Best Overall – Seattle’s Private Reserve (Jet Fuel x Tangie)
The Evergreen Cup 2019!
This year things are going down a little differently. We want to hear from the people so nominations are open online to submit who YOU would like to see invited to compete in The Evergreen Cup 2019. (Drop your nominations here!)
Another change up is our partnership with Lemonhaze Cannabis and Comedy Convention. The convention, including the awards ceremony for The Evergreen Cup, will be held at the Tacoma Dome in October.
The competition for 2019 has one more twist to it. We’ve added a second track that competitors can opt in to. In the spirit of keeping a truly level playing field, House of Cultivar has generously volunteered to donate clones to be provided to the growers for our Clone Wars category. For this category everyone starts with the same material and it is up to sheer talent and skill to be named the best. Each grower will have to tease out the best from those genetics and outshine the rest.
We will be accepting nominations until March 1st! The only way for your favorite vendor to compete is for you to nominate them so get to it!
